-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: activity-report [-t dialogTimeOut] [-l activityLogFile]
- [-p promptString] [-w windowTitle]
-
- Purpose: Bring up a window on the user's screen into which they
- can type up to 255 characters of text. The text is
- recorded in a log file with a time stamp attached to
- each entry.
-
- Options: -t Change prompt dialog timeout from default of 60
- seconds, to the supplied number of seconds.
-
- -l Use the following name for the log file, instead
- of the default ("Activity Log.txt").
-
- -p Use the following string as the prompt in the
- activity dialog.
-
- -w Use the following string as the window title for
- the activity dialog.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: beep [BeepCount]
-
- Purpose: Beep BeepCount times, or just once if BeepCount is
- omitted.
-
- Options: None.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: "cron fader"
-
- Purpose: Screen saver. The cron icon dances randomly around
- all available screens, preriodically spelling out the
- name "cron".
-
- Options: None.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: disinfect [options] [Disinfector] [TargetPathNames]
-
- Purpose: Run the anti-virus program on the optionally specified
- volumes. If the Disinfector is not specified with the
- '-c' or '-n' options, Disinfectant 3.x is assumed.
-
- While Disinfectant 3.x is not available yet, other
- anti-virus systems do, or will soon, support the anti-
- virus AppleEvents dispatched by this command. I
- believe that SAM 3.0 currently supports this.
-
- Options: -c Run the program whose creator code is supplied as
- the Disinfector argument.
- -n Run the program whose name is specified in the
- Disinfector argument.
- -x Scan instead of disinfecting. (Normally you won't
- want to use this option.)
- -s Scan the system volume (so you don't have to know
- its name).
- -a Scan all mounted volumes (so you don't have to
- know any volume's name).
- -b Run the the disinfector program in the background
- (so you don't have to watch it all happen).
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: echo [-t timeout] <args>...
-
- Purpose: Echo arguments to "standard" output using notification
- manager.
-
- Options: -t Notification Manager alert automatically goes away
- after the timeout interval (in seconds) has
- elapsed.

- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: "midnight sky fader"
-
- Purpose: Screen saver. Draws a night sky with clouds.
-
- Options: None.
-
- Notes: Requires at least a 68020 processor, System 7 and lots
- of RAM. Designed around 24 bit color, but will dither
- to any bit-depth. The introductory screen will look
- terrible if you don't have the Palatino TrueType font
- installed.
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: mountafp ZoneName ServerName VolName UserName
- UserPassword
-
- Purpose: Mount the volume specified by VolName of the AFP file
- server named ServerName in the ZoneName zone. Log in
- with the UserName user name and UserPassword password.
-
- Options: No options.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: open [[-c applicationCreatorCode] | [-n applicationName]]
- [-b] fileName
-
- Purpose: Open the specified files, optionally forcing a particular
- application to open them. If any of the specified files
- are aliases, they are resolved and the files to which they
- point are opened.
-
- Options: -c Use the following four letter creator code to
- identify the application that should be used to
- open the specified files.
-
- -n Use the following named application to identify the
- application that should be used to open the spec-
- ified files.
-
- -b If the specified application must be launched,
- launch it in the background, instead of the fore-
- ground.
-
- -p Print the files (instead of just opening them).
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: quit [-c applicationCreatorCode] | [-n applicationName]
-
- Purpose: Quit the specified programs.
-
- Options: -c Use the following four letter creator code to
- identify the application that should be terminated.
-
- -n Use the following name to identify the application
- that should be terminated.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: shutdown [-rd] DelaySeconds [-i PromptString]
-
- Purpose: Kill all processes and shutdown or restart the computer.
-
- Options: -r Restart the computer, instead of shutting it down.
-
- -d Delete desktop files on all mounted volumes. This
- forces them to be rebuilt the next time the volumes
- are mounted.
-
- -i Shutdown interactively -- display a shutdown alert.
- PromptString should be specified when this option
- is used.
-
- Note: Processes that do not support AppleEvents will delay
- shutdown, since the OS will not kill them until the
- Quit event sent to them has timed-out. This can easily
- take a minute or two. Eventually, however, all processes
- will be killed and the restart/shutdown will take place.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: sound SoundNames
-
- Purpose: Play the 'snd ' resources specified by the SoundNames
- arguments. Sound will look for the 'snd ' resources
- in either the System file or in sound files of the
- same names. Any number of sound names may be specified
- -- each one will be played once and in the listed order.
-
- Options: None.
-
- Warning: Sound may not work if it does not have enough memory
- in order to load the specified sound resource. Adj-
- usting the memory allocation for sound will fix this.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: "tcp time client" [-d] ServerName [BackupServerNames]
-
- Purpose: Connect to the specified time server, get the time
- from it, and reset the Mac's time and date accordingly.
-
- Any number of time servers may be specified; each
- will be tried in turn until the time is successfully
- retrieved from one of them. Typically, you'll want
- to specify your local time server first, then one or
- two backup servers which should be tried if your
- local server is unavailable for some reason.
-
- Options: -d Adjust for Daylight Savings Time (DST). Use this
- option if you live in an area of the USA that
- conforms to the DST convention.
-
- Note: This is a TCP-based implementation of the "Time Protocol"
- defined in RFC 868 of May 1983 (available from
- nis.nsf.net). While most time servers support both TCP
- and UDP based queries, there are exceptions. ULTRIX, for
- example, seems to be distributed with its support for
- TCP-based queries present, but disabled. Consequently,
- this command is useful with most, but not all, time
- servers.
-
- MacTCP is required, and the Map control panel must be
- set to the correct local time zone for this to work
- properly.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: unmount VolumeName
-
- Purpose: Unmount the volumes specified by VolumeName and all
- subsequent arguments. Volume names need not include
- a trailing colon.
-
- Options: No options.
-
-
-
-
- ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
-
- Usage: uupc [-n applicationName] [-b] SystemName
-
- Purpose: Instruct UUPC 3.0 to connect to the systems specified
- by SystemName and all subsequent parameters.
-
- Options: -q Quit UUPC when the calls are complete.
-
- -n Use the following name to identify the application
- that should be used to connect to the specified
- systems.
-
- -b Launch UUPC in the background, instead of the
- foreground.
